Holding to the Vision
By Mark Monchek − January 21, 2010
How do we see what’s not there yet? And if we can see the future of what we hope for now, how do we believe it can actually happen? The most powerful creators, those bold and courageous entrepreneurs, artists, and visionaries have the ability to clearly see what is possible and handle the tension between their current reality and their desired future. That tension between what could be and what is, is often the downfall of those who give up out of frustration or lack of belief.
I’m speaking of the ability to hold the future in your mind’s eyes, as if it were actually here now, while at the same time knowing that it is not here yet. And, in fact, the present is far from the future… far enough that the day to day tasks consume so much time and energy that there isn’t much left for working on the future. So how do we transcend this all too common tendency to give up?
We start where all creators begin- with nothing. With a blank slate, a white canvas, an empty mind.
In order to create something big, that audacious goal, the one that you REALLY want, the one that will change your life, and maybe the lives of others, you need to remove all of what exists now. This includes the assumptions, the preconceived notions, and the old beliefs that will constrain your vision. If you empty the mind and let stillness in, then the vision of what is possible will arise gracefully of its own accord.
