Best Selling Author Charts a New Path to Power

By Mark Monchek − October 30, 2009

Gary Zukav, author of the mega bestselling book The Seat of the Soul, and four other widely popular books, has followed an extraordinary path to success. He dropped out of Harvard after his sophomore year feeling he didn’t belong there, bought a used motorcycle and traveled through Turkey and across Europe searching for meaning in his life. He returned to Harvard and graduated, only to enlist in the Army and serve in Laos and Vietnam as a Green Beret during the Vietnam War. Later on he moved to San Francisco and immersed himself in the counter culture by experimenting with drugs, sex and riding his bike aimlessly across northern California. He was mired in a life of anger and depression when an unlikely opportunity presented itself- he was invited to the Laurence Berkeley lecture series at the University of California, Berkeley. He had never had any interest in science but suddenly found himself listening to world renowned physicists discussing a radically new kind of physics known as Quantum Mechanics.

Like a bolt of lightning, Zukav was jolted out of his depression, awakened by a new way of looking at the world offered up by Quantum Mechanics theorists. He had never written a book, had no science background, yet he knew he would write a book on the New Physics. And he did. The Dancing Wu Li Masters was published in 1979. After years of living aimlessly, Gary Zukav had a purpose. He would go on to explore the deep and unseen connections in the universe in an effort to find the meaning of life and the next phase of human evolution.

In 1989, Zukav published The Seat of the Soul, which became a Number 1 New York Times bestseller. He was discovered by Oprah Winfrey, who was inspired by his work, and was a recurring guest on her show during the mid-to-late 1990s and returning in 2007. The Seat of the Soul went on to be published in twenty-four languages, sell millions of copies, and span over three hundred Soul Circles around the world. In the late 1990’s, Gary Zukav met his spiritual partner, Linda Francis, who co-authored The Heart of the Soul and The Mind of the Soul. Along the way, they founded The Seat of the Soul Institute for the purpose of sharing the work on a deeper level with people who wanted to live the principles Zukav and Francis wrote about in their books, and taught around the world in lectures and workshops. The Institute offered an Authentic Power Program for people who want to live the values of honesty, integrity, and cooperation. Zukav and Francis believe the human species is evolving from being governed by the emotions of fear, doubt and scarcity to be inspired by honesty, harmony, and loving actions.

I recently completed the first of several three day workshops devoted to learning the art of living in Authentic Power and will be blogging about the experience. In the meantime, visit this link to learn more about the program. I highly recommend it.
