Become a Linchpin Business
By Mark Monchek − March 02, 2010
The rules of business have changed forever. Change is faster and more radical than ever. Competition is greater and coming from places we never expected. Our government is in gridlock now and unless we change the rules, we will be stuck in neutral for years to come. Those of us who work in business and nonprofit organizations must lead the way to sustainable growth. We need to have a say, to make a difference. If our vote at the ballot box is not all that we want it to be we can vote in other ways. We can vote by the jobs we choose, the way we do those jobs, how and where we spend our money, and by starting and growing businesses and organizations that do well by doing good.
Seth Godin’s argument for a new set of rules powered by what he calls Linchpins, asks that we become indispensable as workers because of a can-do attitude, a passion for life and work, and a willingness to use our passion to improve whatever we do in the world. But it’s not just individuals. Businesses that want to succeed in the new economy must follow this path and rise to what is an exciting, and ultimately, rewarding challenge.
Therein lies the opportunity for your business. Become a linchpin business and you’ll grow even in a big, bad, bear economy when your competitors are going out of business. That’s what we’ve done with our clients. Together, we’ve learned the lessons needed to succeed in the new world of business.
